Masters Historic Championships

Grand Prix Masters

Grand Prix Masters

Although the last Formula One Grand Prix held at Brands Hatch was in 1986 the Kent circuit still hosts race meetings for historic Formula One cars on the full Grand Prix circuit several times during the year. The Masters package includes Formula One cars from the 1950s all the way through to early Eighties. The sound of a group of mostly Cosworth powered, the glorious 12 cylinder BRM being an exception, Formula One cars howling down Pilgrim’s Drop is not to be missed. Of course if you are really lucky you get to stand in the pit garages as these machines are coaxed into life. To compliment this there are also classes for sports cars from the 50s and 60s, with a large collection of classic Lola T70s, a number of early McLarens and Chevrons. The eclectic mix of 1950s saloon cars produce close racing all the way down the field.

1970s Touring Cars

1970s Touring Cars

A welcome addition this weekend were some superb 70s touring cars with several BMW CSL “Batmobile” cars appearing along with a Ford Cologne Capri and a number of Escorts. Finally to round out the weekend Sir Stirling Moss raced in his 1500cc OSCA. Photographs from the on track action from all classes Cloth Cap, Oldies But Goldies, COYS Masters Saloons, Morgan Tucker Trophy Challenge, Grand Prix Masters, World Sportscar Masters, Gentlemen Drivers, Historic Grand Prix Cars Association, Sports Racing Masters, 1970s Prototypes and 1970s Touring Cars can be found here

BTCC Round 1

BTCC Round 1

Jason Plato returned to the BTCC championship in a deal only finalised a few days before the first round. Driving a RML prepared Chevrolet Lacetti, Jason was playing catch with the rest of the teams who had completed their pre-season testing and preparation. In the final of the 3 races at the opening round held at Brands Hatch, the Chevrolet Lacetti was victorious having been handed pole position following the drawing of lots. The final race capped a typically action packed day featuring the BTCC, Porsche Carrera Cup, Formula Renault, Renault Clio Cup, Ginetta G50 and Ginetta Junior categories. Diesel Power

Truck Racing

Truck Racing

Racing a one thousand horsepower truck around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit might seem like a very silly idea. But this is exactly what the competitors in the first round of the Delphi British Truck Racing Championship did on the 28/29 March.

On the face of it the laws of physics are going to be against you every time you try to turn or stop something that weighs 5000kg but even so they produce some superb racing. With a huge amount of power and torque available a racing truck is as fast as a sports car and reaches it’s limited maximum speed of 100 mph several times over the short lap.

Pickups

A strong supporting program backed up the trucks, including the Pickup Truck Racing Championship. Large grids with the top 10 places from qualifying reversed and identical machinery produced very close racing throughout the whole field. A full set of photographs from the Delphi British Truck Racing Championship, Pickup Truck Racing, Legends, Dunlop Motorsport News Saloon Car Championship and BARC British Sportscar Series are now available online.
